Here
are a few instructions that will help.
1.
Temperatures: We recommend not raising your soap base over 140 degrees
Fahrenheit. Use a candy thermometer to test before pouring your soap
into the molds.
2. Mold Prep: If you do not prep your molds with a vegetable or
mineral oil your glycerin soaps will come out shiny as opposed to a matte
finish. For other soap processes use a vegetable spray, mineral oil,
Vaseline or other oil. Brush the oil in lightly with a stiff
bristled brush. There should be no oil residue in the molds as those
areas will become holes in your design. Hold the mold to the light
and if you see any oil you will need to brush it out before pouring your
soap base.
3. Pouring: As stated above the base soap must not exceed 140F.
Avoid over-pouring. After pouring tap the mold gently on the counter
and that should fill any air pockets around the image.
4. Unmolding: Some customers have informed us that adding approx. 1
Tbs. of an oil or butter to 1 lb. of M&P base will ease the release of
the soap from the molds.
We do not recommend placing the molded soaps in the freezer for M&P
soap. After pouring, we let them set in the molds for about 4 hours
minimum. When you are ready to take them out of the mold, apply
slight to medium pressure to the image, they should release fine. If
your soap is stubborn just keep applying pressure.
If you choose to freeze, the time frame has to be based on the temperature
of your freezer and the size of your soaps. Once out of the freezer,
invert the mold leaving approx. an inch of space from the counter for the
soap to fall out on its own.
Do not pry, pound, or push down hard on the image---this may damage your
mold. For soaps that resist unmolding one quick bang on the counter
should pop it out---provided the mold is at ROOM TEMPERATURE.
Banging a mold just out of the freezer may crack it!
5. Holes: Once your soaps have been released from the molds, you may
notice a little hole here or there. Take a tiny piece of unmelted
glycerin onto a spatula, a table knife, or even your finger and just
gently push and rub it very lightly into the hole. Done!
6. Washing: We only wash our molds after using essential oils or if
the mold hasn't released properly and glycerin is left behind in the mold.
A soak in some warm water will soften any left over glycerin and rinse in
warm water. If your planning to store your molds for a longer period
of time we suggest washing them beforehand. If any essential or
fragrance oil spills on the mold full strength--was off immediately.
